ACTIVE NUTRIENTS
-
Also known as Vitamin H (or B7), Biotin is a water soluble vitamin that is used primarily in equine nutrition as a co-enzyme to aid the synthesis of other nutrients (particularly amino acids) so that the effective production of keratin can take place for the good of both hoof and hair quality.
-
A sulfur bearing, essential amino acid that plays a key role in the formation of Keratin and is therefore necessary for building strong hooves and a healthy coat. Methionine is generally lacking in most equine rations and so supplementation is essential where hoof or coat quality is poor.
-
A key trace mineral and antioxidant that is essential for a generally healthy horse though is particularly known for its impact in producing strong hooves and healthy coat. Horses with poor hoof quality may require zinc in higher levels than normal.
-
Key limiting essential amino acid that like Methionine plays a key role in the production of keratin and is therefore vital for strong hooves and healthy coat quality. Lysine is also often lacking in equine diets hence its inclusion in hoof supplements.
-
Whilst this trace mineral has a very limited role in the production of keratin it is a key ingredient in support mechanisms such as bone, joints and connective tissue. As such it plays an important role in the overall challenge of maintaining healthy lower limbs.
-
One of the most essential trace minerals that plays a role in multiple functions of the body including immunity, bone development and of course hoof quality. Poor hoof or coat quality may be a symptom of copper deficiencies which is why this mineral is often provided in supplemental levels to assist in addressing this.
